The Avonmouth Severnside Enterprise Area (ASEA) Ecology Mitigation and Flood Defence Project is the biggest project of its type in the West of England. When complete in 2026/7, the project will:
Provide around a 17km length of flood defence, reducing flood risk to 2,500 homes and businesses
Help to unlock 12,000 new jobs for the West of England
Create a minimum of 80 hectares of new coastal wetland habitats for internationally protected bird species
Create improved walking routes, making it easier for everyone to enjoy nature and the spectacular views of the Severn Estuary

In 2021, much of our focus is on flood defence in the Aust and Severn Beach areas. We are installing precast concrete wall units at Severn Beach. At Old Passage Road we have installed new drainage and built ramps to cross the road and a flood gate and are progressing work on the flood defence wall. We are creating a flood defence at the mouth of the Severn at Cake Pill by raising the outfall structure.
We are also continuing our important work to create new coastal wetland habitats for nature both at Hallen Marsh near Avonmouth and at Northwick near Aust.
